Excellent Indian Food. There are 3 options: full buffet with appetizers, just buffet, or order from the menu. The full buffet includes lassi and mango juice, a puffy bread, and a series of appetizers. If you are in a rush, it is best to skip the appetizers, but if you have time, they are innovative and delicious. Some are served warm, some cold. They are small but numerous. Often, the owner is serving and his wife is in the kitchen. They teach a cooking class too and are delightful! The waitress is sweet too. We always leave very full and satisfied.
Their okra (and I usually don't like okra) is so delicious! They have good eggplant dishes and potato curry. The dosa is very good.
I think the negative reviews are people who happened to hit the buffet at a bad time and didn't ask for a substitute or something to be warmed. They do aim to please there. They also remodeled and it is nicer. We keep going back and are always pleased.
Excellent! We had the food initially at a catered event and then came to the restaurant. While yes the service style is a little quirky the food was tremendous. Give it a shot for sure.
Homemade and Friendly. Being a vegetarian I love finding yummy but non-greasy food that's not a salad. While the ambiance and set-up is very simple and basic - it doesn't matter when you get your food. Everything tastes homemade and the servers are happy to guide you with your choice (or tell you what you want if you can't remember the name) The mango-yogurt drink (again, can't remember the name) was DELICIOUS, and the manager very friendly. Will definitely be back to this secret low-key gem.
The food is incredible here! My girlfriend is a vegetarian but I am a committed carnivore. We had three courses and they were all excellent. The samosas were a great beginning. The kofta was excellent. Best part is the owner! Personable and very helpful! Will definitely come back.
Great for gluten free diners!. I have a wheat allergy so going out to dinner can be a little scary, since I don't know if what I am eating will make me sick or not. I really have to rely on the waitperson to give me accurate information about the preparation of the food. Also my options are usually pretty limited. This restaurant was a whole other story. Lots to chose from and the owner made me feel very comfortable about the ingredients explaining what made up each dish. The atmosphere is by no means four star dining but the food was great. I would definitely recommend it, especially the chaats!
Good vegetarian restaurant. My wife is Gujarati and I am south Indian and we are both vegetarian so it made sense to try a restaurant that had Gujarati and south Indian vegetarian food.
The decor is very simple and plain, but with brightly painted walls. You don't come for the ambiance, you come for the food.
We have been here twice. On our first visit, we had some chaats. We are both fans of chaat, or the Indian street foods, and we have to say that they pull it off pretty well. Not the best we have had, but very good.
Our second time was for the lunch buffet (the best bang for your buck). We had the regular buffet and added on the unlimited chaats. We were very pleased by the food and flavors we had. We had masala dosa, several types of chaat. Our friend also got the all you can drink lassi (yogurt drinks with plain and mango) added to his buffet which he liked. Then we went to the buffet. While it did not look impressive, the food tasted very good. We were definitely full by the end of the meal.
For those who are looking for the creamy, paneer dishes found in most Indian restaurants, you are NOT going to find them here. That is not what they are about. They are about the home cooked style food and healther (despite the oil). It is worth trying once. For my family and friends, we will definitely be stopping by again and again.
Fantastic Indian Food. We read many reviews for this place and they were mixed - but we decided to try it anyway, and we are *so* glad we did!
Banana Leaf features southern Indian cuisine, and it is slightly different from your average everyday Indian food in that it is a course-based meal which begins with several small appetizers (called "chaats"), brought direct to your table by the *very* friendly and courteous staff. These were quite delicious, and while following the same basic formula as other Indian cuisine I've had, they were equally unlike any dish in particular I can think of. Following these appetizers, you can help yourself to the buffet, which has what many consider to be the "more traditional" Indian fare (e.g. kormas, curries, dal, etc.). Homemade chutneys, like the date chutney, must be tasted to be believed.
I can't stress how good all the food was here. Everything was home-made, and really to die for - the paneer was incredible, the bread was hot from the pan - and the lassi, which comes in *five* varieties is truly delicious *and* bottomless - you can drink as much lassi as you want. I had to force myself to stop drinking the mango lassi so that I would have room for the rest of the food!
Other reviewers have mentioned that they walked away from here feeling stuffed - and I have to concur. Well worth the absolutely reasonable price of $12.99 (weekend dinner) or $11.99 (weekday dinner); a lunch buffet is also available for $8.99. And if you're not into a buffet, you can order from their incredibly comprehensive menu.
Best India Ever!. Honestly, this is the best Indian food I have ever had, and I've had bunches, even in London! And I am a vegan, and the owner and his wife always prepare me separate food and point out what is vegan at the buffet. They even recognize me when I come in, and I only make it once a month. Love it!
Bethel Road in Columbus is a decent stretch of restaurants. The Refectory , one of the top restaurants in the state, sits on Bethel. The Winking Lizard offers 100 beers in bottle and draft along with a limited vegetarian menu. There are many other dining
almost two solid decades of eating at Kamal's Indian restaurants, from Annapurna to Banana Leaf the menu has evolved throughout the years and the food has only gotten better. making the rounds thru many of the Indian restaurants in Columbus, I've come to the conclusion you just can't top the value and experience you get with the delicious food and exceptional service at Banana Leaf. their attention to specializing in vegan food and keeping in mind those who are gluten-free only makes their restaurant not only shine, but unique and outstanding in their own right. Kamal is very accommodating and always goes the extra mile to make his guests comfortable. the all-you-can-eat vegan lunch buffet is my happy place. you would be remiss as a vegan (okay, as well as a non-vegan) to overlook this Columbus gem!!
Amazing food!! Less variety but good enough to satisfy. Veg lovers or roti /Suubji lovers must hit place
I don't know about the dinners, but the lunch buffet was reasonably priced around $8, and a nice addition to lunch options in the area for those who prefer vegan/vegetarian. I eat a lot, so a buffet is good for me! Food was fairly basic Indian cooking... a lot like what I would make at home, but very enjoyable because of that. The owner was very pleasant to get to know and was very welcoming. A new favorite lunch spot for me!
We were only people there with a table of two, even though they were really quick to serve us. Our waiter was very nice but timid and asked us if we needed anything multiple times. Food was very good, though we would have liked more rice, should have asked. Definitely coming back with more people. The food was also accomadating as my boyfriend asked if the food could be made spicy and they did so. Overall a really good vegetarian friendly place.
Highly recommend for vegans, vegetarians and those looking for gluten free items. Very friendly staff and you can tell they really care about the food they are serving! The dinner buffet was super reasonable (13.99) and includes appetizers and a variety of curries. The menu is clearly marked with Vegan, Vegan Option Available, or Gluten Free/Gluten Free available. Huge selection on the menu, but give the buffet a try! You won't leave hungry :) The only suggestion to the owners, perhaps turn-off the fluorescent lights and keep warmer, more dim lights to enhance the atmosphere.
The vegan/vegetarian lunch buffet is very reasonably priced at $7.99. I had a buy one get one coupon - and they gave me another when I left. Nothing fancy but quite good, there is rice, cabbage, beans, curry etc. I was very full when I left. Very welcoming. A little hard to find as it is back in the corner, but worth looking for!
The customer service here is absolutely excellent. I really felt taken care of during my whole visit. I loved all the food from the lunch Buffet for $8.50. My only complaint is that the food is way too salty and oily. This might be just a personal preference as the flavors in all the dishes were spot on. The food kept in the buffet should be kept at a higher temputure as well so it stays hot.
Best restaurant veg buffet was awesome 👏 it was like home food & rose milk was complementary..at last we had a masala pan
Food was excellent and different from anything I've had before. The atmosphere and overall restaurant interior could use some work though but the staff was friendly. I would definitely recommend getting the dinner buffet because it's a good price for all the food you get to try. Knowing nothing about Indian food, I just tried a little of everything. If you want something different then this place is for you!
This is the best place for the vegetarians and vegans.. amazing tofu burger and other indian dishes. My wife and I absolutely loved the food at this place and the chef gave us a free complimentary dessert which was delicious too. Very friendly staff! Planning to go there more often now.
