The fetching Mrs. Rat and I wanted some breakfast. We drove by our new favorite place, Beechwold Diner, but the line was out the door and fairly long. We kept heading south and were going to turn intoBurger King (Arrrrrguhhhhh)! But thankfully, we saw the Wildflower Cafe!
On a first breakfast visit, Corned Beef Hash and Eggs, & Sausage Gravy and Biscuits are a must. If they can't get these staples right, then they are not worthy of our business. Wildflower Cafe is worthy! Chunks of sausage in a smooth gravy, flaky buttermilk biscuits. Crispy corned beef hash, two eggs over easy (perfect by the way), rye toast, and endless coffee. The fetching Mrs. Rat had the Spinach & Bacon Omelette with Rye toast. It looked good and TFMR confirmed that it was, she didn't even offer me a bite!
The clientele was diverse, there was room to move around. We did not feel cramped. The place was not hipster nor trendy, just relaxed. The breakfast menu has a wide variety of choices and items for the egg dishes that you would normally see in a more trendy place.
The only complaint I have is the toast was not really toasted. It was barely browned. Since I had biscuits, I really didn't mind. The service was great.
The lunch and dinner menus look good, so we will return to try both.
With the new apartments going up just north of the place, I am sure it will only get more popular. I just hope they won't change a thing.
Wow the fried chicken Saturday special is amazing! Cooked just right. Great customer service and always greeted with a smile. Will be back soon- Yummy!
This Red Skin Potato Salad Rocks. The salad contains just the right amount of tang and onion flavored. Remarkably, I prefer it to more typical breakfast spuds when getting eggs here. I have also enjoyed the turkey sausage at Wildflower. They serve a good cup of coffee and it is one of my favorite weekend breakfast places. The Wednesday night special, Athens County Chicken and Noodles is comfort food of the highest order.
I just hope they put the two interior doors back up before winter . . .
Awesome place with excellent food Charlie our waiter did a wonderful job. Our first time there. Had the raspberry BBQ pork chops. Delicious. Moist and tender. Wife had the wiener schnitzel which was very tender. And to top it all off they have jackiO beer in cans and were running a special on $5 maker's mark old fashioneds. Wll definitely be back.
Great value. Great neighborhood restaurant. It reminds me of being in a small town. The food is consistently good and the value is great. They also have great desserts and serve alcohol!
Great breakfast location. If you can grab a seat, this is an EXCELLENT breakfast location in Columbus/Clintonville.
Great little restaurant! Veggie burrito, challah French toast, scrames eggs, heuvos rancheros all very delicious. Good coffee and my mug was never empty! 7 people working on Saturday morning with very quick service. Food in under 10min! Will return Again and again
Try the blueberry pancake with real maple syrup. It was excellent! Service was great! A friend of mine and I had a great experience there. The only critique is that the potatoes that came with the breakfast were a little oily and not very crispy. Will definitely go back though!
Likes it--Really Good. The guy who said this place misses a "special oomph" also said he prefers North Star and Banana Bean Cafe. No big disagreement there--if you don't mind spending three times the price. But if you just want good, well-prepared comfort food at a very reasonable price, Wildflower Cafe is a great place to go.
The specials at Wildflower are outstanding, particularly the Saturday night fried chicken. The Turkey Sandwich is also excellent (and I'm not even a big fan of turkey). I live in Clintonville, so I go here pretty regularly, and I haven't had a bad meal yet. Try it. You'll like it.
Good. Great taste of "old" clintonville culture. Try the daily special at dinner, or one of the omelletes at breakfast.
I really like a local place and I love a good diner. I discovered this diner while in the area after doing a Google search for recommended restaurants. The reviews were good, so we gave it a try. This place had character, the staff was friendly, and it was very clean. The food was reasonably priced and we both enjoyed what we ate. I would recommend this place and will likely try it again. The warm fresh made biscuit was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the local cold brew coffee from a beer bottle. Next time we go, we're getting dessert.
Had the Louisiana pasta and the blue cheese c kettle chips. Very good food, great prices, nice staff. The menu is small but offers something for every diet. I will be a returning customer.
Wildflower Cafe is a nice liitle place tucked into the busy area of North Clintonville. We had lunch on a Friday afternoon amd had no trouble getting a table. I got the Club sandwich that was delicious and my dining companion had the burger which was huge! Lindsay, our server was wonderful as was all the staff we encountered. I will have to return soon for the Southern Fried Chicken Special (Saturday's only).
Delicious handmade food with exceptional service. The biscuits and gravy with homemade biscuits. Made from scratch pierogis were amazing.
Wait staff was great! Food was fresh and delicious, seasoned well, having my leftovers for lunch today!
Nice, cozy, inexpensive cafe. Very popular with the locals. There are options for vegetarians. There are specials in the weekends. Definitely recommend the breakfast burritos!
Full order biscuits and gravy at Columbus institution Wildflower Cafe. These biscuits are the bomb! Two large biscuits, halved, nice and crispy on the outside as you can see, nice and fluffy on the inside (#perfectlybalanced #thanos ). Gravy could have been hotter at service, or plate could have been heated - gravy got cold before I could finish 😪
Everything about this place is amazing. I feel like it's practically been around my whole life but it really hasn't changed much, the last time I went was over 10 years ago and we just went this weekend for brunch. We were immediately seated, I know this place is usually so busy you have to wait. The parking lot is small and a little hard to get out of but it's worth it. The Benedicts are wonderful, the waitresses are warm, friendly, and seem to honestly want you to have a good experience. We will be back.
Good service, good food. Veggie burger and Reuben pair surprisingly well.
Great service and good food. 1st time and will be back. ;)
