So, I discovered Fretboard at the Clover's tasting event and instantly fell in love with their coffee (this coming from a Starbucks junkie). My favorite is the Bolivian, which is robust but smooth, with no bitter aftertaste (it puts Pike Place to shame, seriously). I'm trying to limit my caffeine intake, so I'm finding a lot of half caff or decaf in my cup nowadays. I grabbed a bag of Fretboard Bolivian decaf at Hy-Vee the other day, taking a leap of faith that I would enjoy it as much as the regular, but hadn't had a chance to try it yet. I visited Fretboard's shop in person for the first time today, and they brewed up a cup of fresh Bolivian decaf just for me. I couldn't believe what my taste buds were telling me. This was decaf? It tastes just as amazing as the regular brew! I gave it a little half-and-half, which they carry from Ozark Mountain Creamery. I was in heaven! Who gets this excited over decaf, right? Certainly not me before today! I definitely recommend stopping in to their cool little shop for possibly the best cup of coffee you've ever had.
I don’t know what they could improve at Fretboard. Really cool environment, awesome music going on, cool patio space, and YES...they have the best coffee in town! Between all these things, I think it’s clear they’re the best coffee spot in Columbia!
Lovely little coffee shop with a relaxing vibe! Every time I need to get through a stressful meeting/piece, I go to this place to prep for it.
Oh, and it also serves the best mocha in town :)
I knocked off one star on service because the place was randomly closed on some occasions when it ideally should have been open according to Google maps. So I would call ahead on weekends to confirm that they're open.
Great coffee and wonderful ambiance. Can definitely drop the mask thing by now though. I've traveled just about everywhere over the past year and this is the first place that has asked me to put a mask on. Not even airlines do it anymore.
The coffee is... what’s another word for “life bearing elixir?” Smooth, yet bold. Assertive, yet delicate. A beautiful roast... unsure of the beans origin or roast but wow. Had one of the better Americanos in recent memory.
Lovely location, hidden down a slip alley just a block off Broadway. Quiet, yet busy enough to know this is a place worth returning.
Recommended by a professor at Mizzou, good people.
Okay. A quick note. If you come here thinking you’re ordering a pour over well, you’re not exactly. I was told the pour overs are kind of made in bulk somehow and then poured into a dispenser. And check out the grounds in the cup.
But. And a big but. The coffee was pretty damn good. And there was blue sky and sunshine in early March. Hence 5 stars.
Coffee is great, but the way they treat people has made me a lifelong customer. Also they have open mic nights, very fun!
Had the most delicious dirty chai here. I ordered it iced but I got a hot drink instead, and the barista was very apologetic about it but it ended up being so tasty and so worth it for only $5
Love the atmosphere! Wonderful coffee and service. I had a Cinnamon Honey Latte.
Their cold brew (with a splash of oat milk) it transfix your mind (and your heart rate) as you aimlessly stroll the neighboring bus depot
