Udupi Cafe's menu is almost exclusively focused on southern Indian cuisine. So what's the difference between north Indian and south Indian food? A lot, actually. First, southern Indian food is almost exclusively vegetarian. Indeed, Udupi Cafe is vegetarian only. Southern Indian cuisine also focuses a lot on different permutations of a fermented rice batter made into crispy crepes and other concoctions like the aforementioned dosas. There's an emphasis overall on rice and lentil-based items.

Food:
We went for Vada Sambhar, Masala Idli, Pongal with Avial and Mysore Coffee. Vada Sambhar was great. The Vada was made very well and a perfect combination with the hot sambhar. Masala Idli was great. Quite spicy. Idli was melt in mouth. However, Pongal was disappointing. It was closer to Gujarati Khichdi in terms of taste. To be fair, none of the South Indian restaurants in the US, I've tried so far, have been able to recreate the authentic Pongal you get in Hyderabad, Chennai or Bangalore. Avial, however, was amazing and a must try. Mysore Coffee was okay.
Ambiance:
Quite good. Not much South Indian touch when it came to the ambiance. I would have loved to see something on that.
Service:
Service was good. Vada sambhar came in a flash since sambhars are generally made in bulk and Vada don't need to be hot because the sambhar is. However, we had a good 10mins wait before we had Masala Idli and Pongal with Avial. Staff, not quite enthusiastic - probably they wanted to be at the theater watching Bahubali 2 but they were made to work instead.
It is a good south Indian restaurant. I had south Indian Thali several times during their lunch hours and tried their Masala Dosa as well. I found everything tasty and service was good. I took few of my American customers there for lunch. They also liked it and they are going there again for lunch with their friends too.
They all liked the food there. I will go there again and enjoy the food at Udupi.

Went here for 3 days in a row and another day the following week. The food here reminds me of the food from Bangalore. The sambar is so good and the dosas are crispy. Royal Thali is worth the money. Udupi is going to be our default option or a good Indian meal.
it is one of the most authentic south indian veg places to eat in Cincinnati. Love the food. Service is good too. Not sure why there are few reviews on bad food. Have been going for a while now and is still good. Love their Thali.

Quite honestly this is the best Indian food we have had in years! My husband and I are vegan and we are visiting the Cincinnati area. I have friends from Southern parts of India and this food reminded me of sitting at my friend’s kitchen table sampling the food she would make for her family. We truly enjoyed our visit! 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It's a good place , the restaurant itself is a bit old fashion and could be cleaner , I thought the Menu card was a bit gross .

The medhu vada and masala dosa are just as good as when we had them on our visit to Karnataka and the gulab jamun is a fantastic finish to the meal.
We had Idli plus the Spring Dosa and the Paper Masala Dosa. As always, Udipi did not disappoint.

Very good South Indian vegetarian restaurant
Food is good but not as much as I expected. I drove a long way to go to the restaurant.
We've never had a bad experience at Udupi Cafe. Our food is always hot and fresh and the service is nice too. We've been dining here for about three months and haven't tried anything on the menu we haven't enjoyed. My husband loves the sambar and the spice level (he likes it sweating HOT and they always oblige lol). So glad we found this place!
This place deserves 5 stars...my family and I enjoy this mini Cafe. Dosas and pav bhaji were very tasty. My husband also had chai which he enjoyed. Falooda and sweet semiya were refreshing. The servers are very friendly and enjoy their customers very much. 🙂🙂
