Excellent food at a great value. The place is really squeaky clean and inviting. Plenty of seating. This place caters towards seniors but anyone is allowed to go in and order food and sit down and eat. My only gripe is that they make you sign in everytime you run in to pick up your carryout. They also send a lot of mail to whatever address you put on the sign in sheet.
This restaurant offers excellent food for very affordable prices. Owned by a non-profit foundation dedicated to the welfare of senior citizens, this restaurant also offers classes there, such as meditation, exercise and yoga. I was taken there by a businessman, and we were joined by his lady friend. She ordered a tropical chicken salad which came with garlic toast, a meal which she liked. We ordered the grilled swordfish entree which came with a cup of homemade split pea soup, which was velvety and rich tasting. The swordfish was prepared in a Mediterranean fashion with olive oil and spices. The fish was cooked perfectly, the texture was flaky and moist and the flavor was meaty and excellent. We drank raspberry ice tea. The entrees cost only $9.99 and the ice tea was $1.35. The restaurant has a no tipping policy, so instead I purchased a knitted hat and a small piece of jewelry made by volunteers. I will learn more about this foundation. I was really impressed.I
Great food and warm environment. Excellent "down home" hospitality. We sometimes meet here as Texas Southern University Alumni who are in the Chicago area. Great prices and scrumptious menu. Definitely recommend this place for comfort food!
Great place and great food. And the people who work there are the best! Joan will always greet you with a smile when she takes your order, often remembers your name, and gets your food to you right away! And the food specials can't be beat.
An intersting place filled with interesting people and events. Its a nice little joint to get some food culture and company. They support local artists by providing a platform for muscians and sell paintings. They also sport a few computers for people to use and I don't believe they charge you to use them. They have a small gym and offer some fitness classes. Its very clean and modern. Please come and enjoy!
Awesome spot! More than just a restaurant, there are plenty of activities for everyone here! The staff is very friendly, and they all want to make sure that you have an enjoyable visit. Every time I come for breakfast or lunch at Mather's, I always have an A+ experience. Mather's is truly more than a cafe!
We liked the concept, i.e., a community place for seniors, and those whom enjoy the company of others. Not your typical eatery. Read about their mission before you go. Fun place to visit. The food isn't banging but it's wholesome.
Good food at reasonable prices. Programs are interesting. Items for sale made by participants include jewelry, cards, and photos. Small room and almost always crowded for breakfast. But they have 2 women's restrooms!
Great food, delicious, affordable, nice people, wonderful workers always there to help you.
I will like thank the owner of Mathers for coming up with such a great idea of a seniors place like this, where we can eat out more often, meet other seniors, and have activities.
Good coffee and great breakfast. Very clean place and friendly people.
Update: I don't know if their hours change with the seasons, but it's now wintertime and they're not open on weekends. Too bad. That's my favorite time to go for brunch.
