I really love the food, the staff, and the feeling of home. I would recommend to all my fellow friends to try this amazing restaurant! It is my number one place to eat and enjoy time. The staff is so friendly, and they remember you every time you come, also remember my favorite dish.
Thank you Salam
One of the best middle eastern restaurant in Chicago .nice staff best food
Was pretty hesitant with Salam given some of the negative reviews but they seemed to be the most reasonably priced late-night takeout option for a beef Shawarma wrap so decided to go ahead and take a chance.
It was fairly worth it. The shawarma wrap is one of the better tasting ones I’ve had and although it wasn’t the largest I felt like it was well balanced and filling enough with the sides. Although some photos seemed to show different style fries these were exactly the steak type I was hoping they’d be.
The sandwich came with pickles, lettuce and tahini sauce on the side and I also ordered a hot sauce. The white sauce was really good and the hot sauce added a good amount of spice to the meat although it was already seasoned well. I think maybe the lettuce may have been left on the side to keep from getting soggy in the sandwich which I appreciated but that led me to notice that there didn’t seem to be any tomatoes as the description on the menu had said. That was a bit of a let down but the onions and beef were still really good. I actually ended up mixing some of the sauces together to make a little dressing for the lettuce and spooning that onto bites which tasted delicious.
Ordering was relatively easy online. The order was ready in the quoted 30 mins and the meal was less than $12. A pretty good value overall.
Food was crazy good. As a Jordanian, I am very picky and particular about our “back home” foods like mensaf and magloobeh and mlukhiya. They blew it out of the water. We highly recommend. We will be back when we’re in Chicago again.
Best kebab place in the area!!! Excellent service!!! Great Hummus!!! Great yogurt salad!!
Succulent and juicy Kebabs and fresh salad!! Everything here was excellent.
We had the spicy chicken thighs and they were very well seasoned and well cooked!!
Highly recommend this place if ur in the area
Delicious food! The best beef shawarma I've had. Try the shawarma wrap Arabic style. The hummus is fresh and amazing as well. Great portions as well. Other than amazing food the service was fast and friendly! The restaurant is clean and spacious. Beautiffully decorated....Highly recommend!
Food was good and service was quick. Waiter were very nice and the price was really reasonable too. Will come again !
Absolutely breathtaking!! Had to work Thanksgiving and in route home I got the craves for some lamb, and it’s nearly impossible to get phenomenal lamb takeout. I got home and my order was near. Let me tell you this was absolutely the most phenomenal lamb lollipops, other than my own of course that i’ve ever had!! So moist, well seasoned, perfect thickness, with the hummus and the tabbouleh with a side of lemon and spicy drizzle! A MUST ORDER!! SPICY LAMB CHOPS ENTREE!
We had chicken tikka and and chicken thighs… both were amazing. We also ordered hummus but instead got baba ganoush… so the waiter insisted and got us hummus for free!! Loved it!! Would definitely go again :)
I ordered moulikhia entree and salad for my husband. The order wasn't ready when I got there because printer had been jammed and they hadn't seen it come through. Regardless, they quickly prepared it while I waited. I hadn't been to Salam in over 10 years. The place is updated and very clean looking. The staff is very friendly and polite and apologetic for the order mishap, which I appreciated. Now on to the food:
The medium meditrenean salad was good but on small side for a "medium". The moulikihia had very good taqliya / seasoning but lacked the sweetness/ acidity you get from a little carmalized tomato paste that I'm accustomed to as an Egyptian and how some of us make it (and I make it). They did give lemon on side which I assume is for acidity, but we Egyptians don't really put lemon in our moulikhia. I think that's more of a Palestinian version. Regardless, it was a good moulikhia for not home made. What comes with it: The rice was cooked well and tasty , although wish it had vermecelli like Egyptian version. And the chicken was decent and seasoned well for what seems to be boiled chicken. My husband who is very picky about moulikhia gave it a "good" rating. Overall, a good meal for those craving this Egyptian comfort dish and don't have time to make it at home. I would recommend it.
Will try other dishes on menu on the future. I think this is a place worth a visit.
Incredibly flavorful and great service! It's been a fat minute since I've had a meal this delicious. Try the combination lunch special with rice and a side of falafel, you'll be in food heaven. Can't wait to go back!
The wait for my food was shorter than expected, staff was really nice. I enjoyed hearing one of the chefs singing to the music and being in his own little world. We decided we'd have a picnic that day. We had food from two diff places (country/culture and restaurant wise) and we shared it. It was delicious and I didn't feel heavy afterwards.
