I have been going there for 40 years since I first started at UIC and now am a professor at Loyola. I love this place. I love the family atmosphere. Steve who runs the joint was a teenager when I first started coming there behind the counter. They're like family to me.
Tasty, flavorful, and I really liked the perfectly seasoned peppers and celery on top. I had asked for my sandwich to come dry, but they served it wet (dipped) instead. Not a deal breaker, as it was still really good.
Horchata Italian ice was also really refreshing.
They accept credit cards but with a $5 minimum purchase... Italian ice is cash only!
Tender and juicy Italian beef with an amazing texture, giardinera with just the right amount of crunch, looks like it was made in house. This is definitely the kind of sandwich you have to eat two handed, and not put down or it'll fall apart. Can also be ordered without dip.
They had hibiscus Italian ice, not sure if it's a one-off flavor but I like it. Tastes just like a frozen agua jamaica. The Italian ice ordering counter is separate from the food one and only takes cash. Food counter takes card.
No guest bathroom on premises.
Great flavors on their beef. Spicy peppers or plain beef, both were delicious. The Italian ice is a great way to cool off.
Awesome place to eat. Not only are their burgers and beefs great, but they also have amazing tacos. Never thought I'd be saying that I enjoy tacos from a beef place. They really are that good.
I was in the area shopping 🛍 and I remembered there was 2 sandwich shops across from each other . Remembering delivering Chicago Tribune Newspaper both establishment businesses, First time I been here since 2012 . I ordered the meatball sandwich , fries 🍟 & drink, & You're talking about " satisfied " Meatball sandwiches are my favorite and that what you get at other places , At Carm's this was more like Homemade Italian dish , My Italian Mum from Italy 🇮🇹 would love 💘 .. Try to time make so time to try their Italian Beef sandwich. Sorry I didn't get to Italian young women & gentlemen name . But this place rock 🎸.. cozy place to eat in or outdoors & the customer service was 100% satisfied, I gave it 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for Carm's Beef & Italian Ice .. I know if my Mum was here she would say " It thats a good !!! 🇮🇹 🇮🇹 🇮🇹 ...
I did not try the food, but the italian ice, oh my!!!! I tried the strawberry favor, which was delicious. However, I was surprised at the horchata flavor. So, so tasty without it being overlysweet. It has pieces of rice that give it some texture. It's a must try, but, be sure to bring cash. It's cash only on the Italian ice side.
Quaint throwback Beef and Hot Dog joint in Little Italy, UIC area. Feels just like you would imagine (authentic). Had Tacos, believe it or not, and they were great! I would recommend going and I would patronize them again.
Enjoyed the delicious Italian ice here with the fresh fruit in it on their nice outdoor seating. Did not try any of the food though as we had just enjoyed lunch elsewhere. Great neighborhood spot for those who don't need to find a place to park as most local parking is by permit only.

Italian ice is so good. There are chucks of yummy fruit. I love the mango, pineapple and strawberry. They have the best hand cut fries and steak tacos!
