There are multiple bakeries in the Chinatown district. This is one of the nicer looking places. The food is slightly more expensive than other bakeries, but it is still a very good value for your money. There is a large variety of bread, pastries and buns. A small dining room sits behind a wall next to the cashier. Family and conversation friendly. The place can get rather crowded on weekends.

Maybe not their official name, I’ve called these “paper cupcakes” my entire life. (I think they may technically be called 紙包蛋糕 , and who am I to argue?)  If you stop in a Chinese bakery and mention “the cake baked in paper” you should be ok.

I stopped in late at night, and only got a gatorade for $1.75. Very nice cashierist, and very tasty-looking treats. I'll probably stop by again.

I love coming to this bakery. One of my favorite spots for a quick breakfast. Cash only. The service is always fast and efficient. I will say everything in the bakery looks delicious, but looks can be deceiving. Some of the items are not for my American taste buds (I.E. Chinese sausage), but what I do regularly order I absolutely love. I get the roast pork buns (pics included), shumai, and my wife’s favorite custard tarts. Stop in and try ‘em!

Red bean and taro buns — egg tart was simply delicious. The buns are perfect and priced well, and they have so many options. I often get the egg sausage veggie bun to keep frozen in my fridge, and they make for a great meal anytime to just steam easily. The red bean buns were so delicious, and the taro was a perfect amount of sweet — buns were fluffy

If you have tried original Japanese bakery this place will disappoint you. If not, you'll probably find it delicious. The cheesecake is good but not as fluffly as the original one, the swiss cake is good but nothing from another world. Nevertheless, don't let my opinion discourage you from trying something from this famous place in the Chicago China town, I'm sure you'll enjoy them. The service is quick and cordial despite the crowd. Only accepts cash.

Deep dish pizza is one of Chicago's claim to foodie fame. But the city should also be known for its traditional baked savory and sweet chinese pastries. Chiu Quon 's bakers have maintained the traditional way of preparing sweet and savory delights in pillowy buns or delicately flaky bites. Its char siu bun, well known in the community, is a delight-dough is soft and pillowy encasing a generous and delicious pork charsiu filling. One bun can satisfy hunger but its so tasty to want to have 1 or 2 more. Surprisingly, most of the baked goods are inexpensive.

Let’s get it out of the way. This place only takes cash. Get over it. The buns here are so fresh, perfectly proofed and baked. The bbq pork buns had a good amount of filling with the perfect amount of sweetness. The coconut cream bun was heavenly. The cream was so light and not too sweet. Just divine!

Very very good baked goods. The staff are really nice and the store is very nice as well. Only downside is cash only but that's not the biggest deal. The red bean mochi is to die for I would highly recommend. Sometimes I take a trip to China Town just for this bakery. Very good stuff I would highly recommend.

I love this place. Lots of great options and they taste good. I love the lotus and red bean baby mooncakes and the bbq pork buns. They only take cash but they have an ATM inside.

We love love love the pork buns and portuguese egg tarts here!!! Both are frequently sold out when we visit, they’re so popular! This place is one of the oldest bakeries in Chinatown and has a rich history. It’s extremely well known to the Chicago community. If you haven’t gone before, go check it out!! (A thing to note is they are cash-only!)

Aug 2023 Update on items we tried, see pics Honeydew cake roll - had to try this, as you normally don't find this flavor at the bakeries (eg. Original yellow cake, mocha, coffee, or pandan). Honestly, the cake roll itself is very good, moist, not too sweet, with just a thin line of cream running through the center. However, it was hard to taste any honeydew. If it's in the cake, then it's very faint, else the only difference is the light green color its been given. Mini moon cakes in lotus and winter melon - love moon cakes any time of year! They had little mini ones in various flavors that were so cute. These bite size are perfect, since a whole regular moon cake is usually too much in one sitting. Picked lotus, which is an all time favorite, and it did not disappoint! The lotus paste inside was smooth, sweet, and delicious! Never had winter melon before... and this was certainly different in taste and texture with just a hint of sweetness. It has actual dried pieces of the winter melon inside. It reminded me of eating the little pineapple cakes. It's good but not one that I'd crave anytime soon. Like eating Chinese dried fruit candy. It was popular, as I watched others order it too! If you're looking for a good old fashion Cantonese bakery, go to Chiu Quon! It's located in the older side of Chinatown on Wentworth. Standard fare of buns filled with bbq pork, curry beef, red bean, coconut, custard and so much more. Regular and Portuguese egg tarts... among other items. A good stop when visiting Chicago!
