This place is a little pricey. But I think you pay a little extra for the nostalgic atmosphere here. I ordered the dry aged tomahawk. It was absolutely delicious. It comes with potatoes. They were really tasty and went well with that large ribeye steak. Also, I ordered a side of the grilled asparagus. It was done perfectly. The service at this place was as good as it could be! This was a wonderful experience, and I enjoyed it with a couple of friends. I definitely recommend checking this place out. I believe it is one of the oldest steak houses in Chicago.

Pre-Christmas dinner at G&G didn’t disappoint. Ordered Chicago’s own Shrimp de Jonghe to start with Negronis. Very good. That sauce!!!!! For dinner we ordered the La Bistecca Fiorentina. O.M.G! The flavor and tenderness!! Okay, the size. Thick cut. Roasted asparagus that comes with it was tender, not crunchy and not mushy. Perfectly cooked. Spumoni for dessert. Perfect dinner. But I have to mention the charm of the place. Fist of all, the patrons. You will see the regulars who know each other and greet each other and staff with hugs. And the older gentlemen often wear awesome fedoras. Our server, Juan M., was so charming and wonderful. Thanks to all of you! Grazie Milli!!!

There is nothing you can find wrong with this place. Food is exactly as the menu says and as you would imagine it to be. The staff is attentive, professional, interactive, Antonio is so Awesome. If you are in Chicago craving a steak or proper Italian food and you don't go here, oh well don't say you weren't told!

Only had one night in Chicago debated which steakhouse to go to. Glad I chose this one, even though I didn't have steak. I got one the classics instead thinking the meal would be smaller but ended up with left over due to generous portions. Cocktails were good and love the old school atmosphere and customers

An experience we will never forget. The history of the building almost matches the history of this family owned restaurant. Some of the best steaks, seafood, and chicken we've had in our food ventures. Try the garbage salad! Service was top notch and super attentive. Cool photos hung up on the walls. A must try if you have the opportunity. Saluti!

A classic in Chicago. While they were out of some items we wanted to order this place doesn't disappoint. The staff was great and the atmosphere of this historic building can't be beat. The food was fantastic: Our steak was cooked perfectly, suggest ordering the mussels/clams.

I gave 3 stars for atmosphere because of the table we were sitting next to. The children were out of control and no one said anything. They were not in dress code as mentioned. Let's talk food, the chops were OUTSTANDING, the wedges with peas were amazing and the calamari was superb. I ALWAYS enjoy a good meal under dim lighting and soft music. We also got seated as soon as we got there. The ONLY female waitress EVER to serve in this establishment and we had the pleasure of having her as our waitress. She was really polite and respectful. We will return again, just away from a table with children.

Our first visit. We tried the crab cakes and the baked clams. They were both delicious. We had a filet, four cheese gnocchi, and eggplant parmesan. All are worth a try. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake and the Italian cookie gelato. A perfect combo. We will definitely be back.

CHICKEN JOE. Yes, Chicken Ala Joe is actually a thing, one of several G&G specialties. I forgot I reviewed this place 8 YEARS ago. Apparently, I'm getting older, because it never used to take me 24 hours to recover from a couple back-to-back early morning departures, despite flying first class - and that's without even consuming a single martini (or one of those mystery liquid drops that some local woman was offering up in the Mexican joint I dined at the night before). Sadly, my prior review here was lame, only a couple sentences, so I’m firing up an update. After years of visiting Chicago, I have two favorite dining establishments: One is in the triangle, you know which. The other, Gene & Georgetti, my love affair on the other side of town - River North. Starters. Ketel up, shaken, olives. Happy to find Mark tending bar on a Saturday, got lucky, filling in for a pal, he's the best. Ohio guy. History. I love history, this is a long-time local haunt. Since 1941. Local comfortable place. Cool bar. Upstairs dining room is nice, but I prefer downstairs where they maybe have 8 tables on the bar side, good luck grabbing one of those. Open Table nope - must know the Maître d'. I spent the week in Chicagoland and ended up here three nights, one at Table 1 and two at the bar. Select items this week we tried and shared: Caesar Salad, add Anchovies, Garbage Salad, GRILLED Calamari (Wowzer, this is a must try - forgetabout fried version), Shrimp Cocktail (they are HUGE), Porterhouse/T-Bone medium rare plus, Spaghetti Bolognese, side homemade Meatballs, Chicken Joe (spectacular dish, classic bone-in or order w/ boneless breast, broiled w/ Sweet Bell Peppers, Pepperoncinis, Italian Seasonings finished with freshly squeezed lemons. Dessert, homemade Limoncello. Check it out folks. Best local non-chain restaurant in Chicago!!!
