This is a basic no frills breakfast spot in South Charlotte. We came at 11 on a Sunday and the place was steadily full the entire time we were there.
We were sat immediately and service was prompt. Our server was a super sweet woman wearing purple kitty ears.
Food was good and prices were reasonable. It’s a solid diner experience. Basic breakfast (2 eggs, bacon or sausage, grits or hash browns, toast or biscuit) for around $10–hard to find a meal at that price in Charlotte these days.
Food came out pretty quickly, less than ten minutes. My meal was good but I did need to add some salt to my scrambled eggs.
I was actually impressed at how clean the bathrooms are. For a mom and pop restaurant that has been around for years, the whole place feels very well kept up.
Located in a strip mall with a decent sized parking lot.
Great service and great atmosphere! They have a very attentive staff. The food lacks seasoning though...needs more soul? Overall a decent place to eat.
I enjoy going here when I'm visiting this side of town. I had country-style steak over rice with green beans and tomatoes. So good. I got spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread to-go for dinner for the next two nights. A huge amount of food, delicious sauce. My server was prompt and friendly and the food was brought out very quickly. I've been dining here for about 10-12 years and always enjoy it.
I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out Tryon House for the first time today. This is pretty much a southern dining restaurant with many protein options like country style steak, baked chicken, daily specials etc with farm-style sides like mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salads etc. They also have sandwiches, gyros, and the like. If you’ve been to Sir Gus Sir Beef on the east side, you’ll know what to expect as it is similar. The service from the hosting to the serving is kind, helpful, and speedy! I enjoyed the broccoli soup which came complementary for dining in with my meal. The country fried steak was fantastic with a nice crispy texture and ohhhh my the portions are massive. I’m staring inside my to go box as we speak, and there is definitely room for another full meal in there! The cornbread is semi sweet and block shaped. The salad, although fairly basic with mostly lettuce and one tomato, was satisfying. I was slightly underwhelmed with the mashed potatoes so I would consider passing on that next time. The sweet tea was wonderfully sweet and refreshing. The main star of the show to me which came recommended by my server was the chocolate pie. The chocolate pies (which stare you in the face as soon as you walk inside the restaurant) are OUT OF THIS WORLD and perhaps some of the best I’ve ever had! You will definitely want to save room for that. All in all, I 100% enjoyed my experience today and I am not surprised at all to know Tryon House has been doing their thing for 27 years now! Check them out!
Great home cooked food at a great price. Daily specials so there's always something for everyone. Yes they have wine and beer!
We were staying at the Best Western and Tryon House was a very short walk. Had breakfast here and enjoyed the food and service. A good place for a quick down home meal.
Fresh veggies in the summer. Entree with two sides (a square meal!) for a decent price. I know of this place since the 90s might have been there longer! Same fella out front I remember forever, the nice workers are good to us customers.
I have to tell everyone something about this place. Last Saturday 08/19/2023 I was so hungry at work, so I decide to call this place and place an order. When I get there I notice that I left my card at home and I usually don’t carry cash with me. So, I was so nervous and embarrassed and started looking for money everywhere in my car and I found $7 dollars cash and some change and when I decided go to the cashier very embarrassed about the situation. That person that I didnt know what her name was very nice and she start counting my money with a smile in her face. After that we was counting the money and this man that I assume is the owner came and told, “don’t worry, it’s ok if you get short on money”
Take the food don’t worry. I felt so embarrassed but at the same time very blessed because we still have good people that understand that we are human and we can make a mistake and honestly I didn’t have another way to pay them at that moment
These people made my day!!
Thank you y’all for being so understanding and so nice to me.
Portions were great plus food was delicious. I had the salmon patties and home fries. And our server was nice. I would recommend.
We love this place! Extensive diner-type menu. The owner and staff are very pleasant. We go there every time we're in Charlotte
