Second visit and another incredible dining experience. Had the amazing crudo (again) and let the chef pick the appetizers (see photo). Porchetta was excellent. The service was great - they are so nice there!
Third visit had the delicious trout with an olive compote on top. This doesn’t “sound” good at all but it’s an incredible dish. The trout is farmed so theres a lot of tasty meat on the fish. Shell pasta dish was very good. Service slipped a notch as we were pressured to leave despite no one needing our seats. Very Brooklyny place.
An ABSOLUTE MUST in NY: Rigatoni alla Bolognese, Quinoa salad with the bread(only at dinner) with the best Olive oil ever. I actually HAD to meet the chef.. chef Hayden you’re amazing!!
Staying at the Marriott nearby and googled Italian restaurants and found this within walking distance. What a pleasant surprise at how perfect it was for what I was looking for... Quaint, ambiance, quiet and amazing food. I had a glass of wine, the yellow beet salad, and brussel sprouts, divine. Now this will be my go-to hotel for working in New York City. Love this neighborhood! I was enjoying everything so much. 👍👍
A beautiful local restaurant in Brooklyn. A little too expensive to justify, however.
The ambience and service are fantastic and the food is decent, however it is significantly overpriced for the quality. All the basics are done very well, but when the simplest pasta is $27 after tax, it needs to be doing a little more and have a larger portion.
Our group of 4 would love to come back but $240 for pastas, bread, and a bottle of wine is unsustainable.
Updated July 2023: Came back as it was a favourite of the crew. Same vibe and decent food. Was it just me, but the food got incredibly salty in the pasta to the salad. The service also felt like it took a step back as well with the server making a face when asked to take away a dirty glass wear. Only saving grace of the meal was the crudo as it was luscious and fresh.
June 2019: Small menu that is executed well. Starters included: pork ribs (served cold to us, probably a mistake), shishito peppers, calamari with a marinara sauce and branzino crudo were simple and well done. I had the char that was beautifully seared (picture below), but the sides to the mains were more or less a repeat of the starters that was ordered (hence the 5th star was not achieved). Note, it is a very Brooklyn style joint, so expect small cramped space and loud environment (due to zero or minimal acoustic mod to the space).
First time in Brooklyn, walked to this restaurant from my hotel, and it was very casual. There wasn’t a host when I arrived so I walked to the bar and the people automatically said “I’m saving that seat for someone”. I have heard New York people aren’t as friendly as people from Texas, (where I’m from). The bar tender said I could sit anywhere so I sat outside in the patio. It was a little hot inside. The waiter quickly greeted me when I sat down. He was very nice and courteous. He told me the pasta was homemade and recommended the Lumache. It was delicious, also had a cocktail and appetizer. It was a different experience dining in Brooklyn, definitely coming back.
Overall: a sweet spot with quality bites. The staff is lovely and I enjoyed being able to walk right in. The communal table is always a fun seating option but I also loved the implementation of round tables.
The food certainly leans on the pricey side but the quality is certainly there. I enjoyed the lox sandwich that was DIY so you could make your own mass of fish and choose your level of smear. The hash browns were good but certainly costly at $7 for 3. A bit of a toss up. Cute neighborhood and love that they are still facilitating outdoor dining. Look forward to stopping in again.
Great neighborhood joint. Got the eggplant sandwich and it is simply the best. Completely devoured. :)
The staff was so friendly and attentive to my friend and me. There's a wonderful little street corner outdoor seating area.
We ended this incredible experience with a fresh cappuccino… blissfully full of creations from the brilliant chef!! This was to top off salted caramel chocolate pudding, raspberry mousse, and chocolate chip amaretto cookies! 10/10 out of 10! Recommend completely. An amazing array of flavors this restaurant’s menu and it’s pairings are truly a work of art and eating here is not just for the cuisine but also the experience. Fantastic vibes, attentive and considerate staff; A great place to expand your palate!
