We just had to had some lobster while in Boston so we decided to take a visit to Hei La Moon after seeing their cheap lobster deal.

Service: 6/10
The workers were overloaded with requests which may have resulted in the bad attitude. They responded to us very slowly because they couldn’t keep up. The food was served quickly, within 15 minutes.

Food: 8/10
The lobsters were fresh and good quality for a cheap price. The food is quite authentic and there is a large variety of options to choose from. The mapo tofu wasn’t too spicy and the tofu was very soft. The portions are generous.

Ambiance: 8/10
The restaurant is very big and spacious. The inside just looks like any typical chinese restaurant. It gets very busy and noisy at night making it very lively.

Co-workers and I have been frequenting Hei La Moon for Dim Sum lunches for as long as our company building has been downtown (three years now!) We'll introduce newbies, bid farewell to those moving on, or we'll straight up satisfy a craving for the insanely good Chinese food only

It's all Chinese to me.

Hei La Moon can be a bit intimidating for those of us who are less familiar with this type of cuisine. So grab your best Chinese chum, and get ready for an exotic explosion!

11:30 AM for Saturday brunch, and the place is already packed. But it's also huge, so we get a table for 4 in the lower level immediately. Upon sitting, we receive a pot of green tea, and immediately carts are strolling past with intriguing options. It seems like we tried all the things - from chewy tripe to every version of a dumpling imaginable. Many thanks to our token Chinese friend who fielded all of our questions and made the majority of our decisions. There's definitely a lot of trust involved here.

My personal faves were the steamed pork buns, sweet egg custard buns, red bean mochi, and fish cakes. The main downside is that some of the food is not completely hot and doesn't taste as fresh as if it were cooked to order (such as over at Windsor Cafe, which you should try btw). Also, the staff with the carts could come across as pushy at times (do they get paid commission per plate sold?), and we found it impossible to decode pricing for each. After you agree to take one, they just mark the paper on your table and set off.

So we were pleasantly surprised when all the food that led to our bursting bellies only came out to around $11 per person! It's such a satisfying, social experience to be able to sample so many different foods and share with friends at such a minimal cost. The food quality may not be the highest, but the variety, authenticity, and experience certainly is!

Pro tip: Avoid the bathrooms if you would like to still have an appetite upon your return to the table. And they'll only split checks on up to 2 cards.

The epitome of Chinatown dim sum.. What can I say? The atmosphere is as hectic and tapas-ish as can be, the food is steaming and delicious across the board, the bathrooms are (as per Chinatown stereotypes) subpar, and the service is of course faster than you'd expect women pushing food carts to be. Go with a group of friends or as a family; Hei La Moon is always a fun time.

Usually I stray away from chinese food in chinatown, but the dimsum here was surprisingly good. Its defintely crowded on the weekend, but with two floors and a constant turnover of people, there wasn't a wait. The carts were a little slow to make the rounds and lacked variety (mostly dumplings) but for what it was the food was quite tasty. We gorged on dumplings for a very reasonable price.

Carts of light mouth watering dumplings. This hit the spot and will top my list of favorite restaurants. The staff was kind although I couldn't understand them, and even though I had no idea which dumplins we chose, they were perfect. Eat here, and eat a lot!

One of the best in c-town. Very decent dimsum (better than many other places in c-town). used to have dinner there too, food's not bad at all.

sometimes service gets a bit rough--typical chinese restaurant. but that one time we went for dinner, the bill came to, say $60 and change for 4 of us, paid $70, and never saw anything back. um, we might not have taken a lot back, but for them to not even think about giving us change (or ASK upon receiving the money), that's not cool.

the place gets crowded on weekends during brunch/lunch hours, even tho they have two floors to fill people in. go early or prepare to wait.

they have validated parking in the garage right above, but the system is kind of stupid. you first have to pay the garage $11 (weekend fare) as you enter. upon leaving the restaurant, you pay the restaurant AGAIN for a $6 discounted fare, and get a stamp on your ticket. then, when exiting the garage, you show your stamped ticket and get $11 back from the garage. it's not too much of a hassle except when you go at night, the attendant might have left for the day by the time you exit the garage after dinner, and you end up paying TWICE for parking. absurd system, don't you think?

Fun Sunday Treat. Our kids were out of town this weekend, so my wife suggested Dim Sum as a treat for the two of us. What a great idea.

We went to Hei la Moon on a friend's recommendation, and enjoyed everything we ate. The price was was good too -- just $24 for both of us.

The line to get in sizable (there were 30 parties before us), but the turn-over was so quick we only waited 20 minutes. Also don't expect English descriptions of of the dim sum, few of the staff pushing the carts could tell us more than 'chicken dumpling.' Still everyone was friendly and we had fun guessing what we just ate.

Went for dim sum on a Thursday (no carts) and Saturday (with dim sum carts) for dim sum. Super nice how the take reservations, as they were very accommodating for our party of 20. From the Dim Sum selection, our favorites would be the Shu Mai, Chive Dumplings, and Spare Ribs. The Egg Tarts were a bit disappointing as they were a bit soggy on the bottom and didn’t have great flavor. Solid place for dim sum

My bf goes here on the weekdays with his coworkers. He took me here on a Saturday for the first time. We weren't aware that you couldn't order from the menu and only order from the carts. When asking some questions, one of the workers seemingly berated him in Chinese. I understand how language barriers can be difficult to work around, and I understand this is a Chinese restaurant, but it was really unacceptable to be yelled. We eventually were able to speak with other patrons who explained it to us, and we enjoyed the food. The chicken wings, shrimp dumplings, and watermelon soup were my favorite. We were also told we could order other menu items, so we ordered the peach buns thinking peach would be in them, but it was bean paste.

Was definitely a fun visit to this dim sum spot in Boston’s Chinatown. Service was efficient and helpful - and aided in mixing/matching some dishes. Pork rolls, pork dumplings, shrimp har gow and others were all extremely tasty. Typical dim sum palace décoré. Overall a fun experience.

I can say the food was amazingly delicious 😋, they have a great variety of food flavors and textures, and you can share with others. The restaurant was clean and full 👌, mostly all the time. If you don't want TEA, tell them right away because it is cost $5 dollars, isn't free. Something we didn't like was the Chinese waitress. She was very rude and in a hurry. She passed another one and gave us a dish that we didn't order, she was at our table for more than 15 minutes and at the moment another one passes by, takes it and delivers it to another table. they shouldn't do that. They don't even know if we touch it. Try to order everything in one time because they're confused 😕, and it takes a lot of time to receive the other plates.

Wish I knew they moved last year but we didn’t until this year. Well this location is bigger and wait time is less. Food quality ? Feel like the old hey la moon is better but this is still very tasty. Can’t go wrong if you wanna give it a try. Try it!

They have basic dim sum plates and some other interesting dishes. Overall it was good. The waiters and the cart ladies were nice. However, there was a FOH lady that was super rude to us and to other staff. To a point you can totally see that's she's pissed. That left a bad taste in my mouth watching how rude she was to other people!

Seeking a your traditional dim sum cart restaurant with grumpy Chinese ladies serving you food? Look no further! Lovely dim sum restaurant! Congee is great, dim sum selection is traditional and wonderful, and atmosphere is what you’d expect at a dim sum restaurant!

Went here on a rainy afternoon when I had a 2 hr changeover in Boston. The pork Shumai was the best. Get the roasted pork bun just for the sweet bun. I ordered the red bean cake; maybe it’s an acquired taste but I felt it was just okay.

I really wanted to give them a five star because I used to love their dim sum when I lived here four years ago. However, it seems like they've lost their touch after they moved location. It's just never the same without the push cart. It's missing that excitement and freshness. I still enjoy the tastes of the food though. The beef chow fun is so good I could eat two plates of it. The shrimp dumplings and chive dumplings are my favorites. Chicken feet and the pork ribs are on the must-order list. Still highly recommend this place to anyone who wants some good dim sum.
