Saw a 4.4 reco on google maps for fro yo so came here. Obviously a popular place - many many combinations available for yoghurt as well as ice cream and sorbets and shakes.
I have to say, the servers are a little cold - as in, don't go out of their way to help (which they should, given the many varieties)
That said, the yoghurt is delicious - both soft and hard full of flavour and very very yummy ! :)
The chalkboard menu is a real turnoff: it's excessively crowded with every frozen dessert offering at JP Licks, and trust me, that list isn't trivial! Once you home in on the ice cream flavors, take time to enjoy the limited editions, and don't hesitate to ask for a sample spoonful. The pistachio is chockfull of raw pistachios and distinctive from its counterpart in Italian gelato. The chocolate brownie is delicious, and the chocolate chip cookie dough is a perennial favorite of mine. Order a medium and split it with a friend.
On a scorching hot summer day in Boston, I stumbled upon JP Licks, and I'm so glad I did! Their rum raisin ice cream was the perfect antidote to the sweltering heat, and the variety of flavors they offered made it even more enjoyable.
First off, the rum raisin ice cream was exquisite. The creamy, rich rum-infused ice cream had just the right balance of sweetness and that subtle hint of rum that made it a true adult indulgence. The plump raisins added a delightful chewy texture and bursts of natural sweetness that complemented the ice cream perfectly.
What stood out the most was the quality of the ice cream itself. It was incredibly smooth, and you could taste the freshness of the ingredients. It didn't melt too quickly, allowing me to savor every bite without making a mess.
From classic vanilla and chocolate to more adventurous options like mint chocolate chip and black raspberry, there was something for everyone. I couldn't resist trying a few other flavors, and each one was as delightful as the last.
The generous portion sizes ensured I got my money's worth, and the staff at JP Licks were friendly and offered excellent service, making the experience even more enjoyable.
In the end, JP Licks' rum raisin ice cream was a delightful summer treat, and the wide range of flavors they offer makes it a must-visit for ice cream enthusiasts. If you're in Boston and looking for a cool, flavorful escape from the heat, give it a try, and don't forget to explore their other delicious
Best cookies & cream ice cream I’ve ever had! The store is a good size and they have plenty on their menu. Staff was friendly and accommodating with sampling with ice cream.

Salted caramel cookies and cream - LIKE IT
I’ve had my fair share of Oreo ice creams, so when I saw they have 3/4 different kinds I had to try them. I was expecting to like the coffee one a lot more but it turned to be not as sweet as I wanted it. The salted caramel was really good! I would definitely go back!

This place was so good. I really like ice cream. And the cookies and cream was very fresh tasting. My son enjoyed his chocolate. The staff was friendly. I love the neighborhood as well, great for grabbing some ice cream and taking a walk through the cobblestone streets
I have been at this location and had great customer service and ice cream. That is why the overall rating is fairly high.
The writeup below is an occurrence from today. I wanted to put down the details while they were fresh. I was told that the order usually comes from the J.P. Licks nearest to the offsite event, which would make the provider the Charles Street location.
On June 13, 2023, my building organized an ice cream social and purchased goods from J.P. Licks. The ice cream and sorbet were fine. Management ordered a large quantity of goods. The J.P. Licks employees had been instructed to give 2 scoops of ice cream or sorbet upon request. On a repeated time and this was close to the end of the social, I asked for 2 scoops of sorbet and the employee with the baseball cap said in a condescending tone, "You get one."
Now, he could have phrased this nicer, such as, "I can give you one scoop for now." Or he could have said he was concerned the sorbet would run out (even though the sorbet was the least popular choice from what could be seen). Or he could have make up a reason for giving only one scoop, but he didn't. Or he could have said I could have one scoop of sorbet and one ice cream. There was no line, no person behind me.
I sat in the common area and observed repeat visitors ask for and receive 2 scoops of ice cream/sorbet.
I went downstairs and spoke to a building management person who organized the ice cream social. I was told that the social attendees could have 2 scoops and come back for another 2 scoops, and so on. On my way down the elevator, I spoke to a neighbor who had gone to the ice cream social and he would be back.
I went back to the event and saw the same neighbor who was a repeat visitor to the event -- now had two cups with 2 scoops of ice cream for a total of 4 scoops.
I didn't need more ice cream, but sat down and watched how the employee with the baseball cap treated residents. I had asked one of the employees how many people came to the event and the reply was over 200. The J.P. Licks employee said there would be much leftovers.
I asked the employee wearing the baseball cap why he said to me, "You get one (scoop)" when he proceeded to give other residents, many of them returning visitors, 2 or 4 scoops. I asked if he treated me differently based on my appearance. He said he didn't have to give an explanation because there was a line of people behind me. I corrected him and said there was only me, no line of people, no one behind me when he said, "You get one (scoop)."
Then he said he had to restrict people after they come "more than 3 times." I said I hadn't come that many times when he said what he did and there were people who came repeated times and he gave the number of scoops they asked for.
The baseball cap employee said, "Are you serious?"
I replied that I was very serious. I also stated that maybe he and his coworker may laugh and snicker after I leave the premises, but it was important that I let him know he needs to treat all with professionalism. This behavior is uncalled for. He should treat customers as he would want to be treated. Telling one person they can have one scoop, then giving multiple other people 2 or 4 scoops is fundamentally not right. I do believe this was based on appearance.
To make this clear, it was the baseball cap employee whose behavior was in question. I found the other employee to be okay.
J.P. has the best selection of high quality ice creams in the Boston area and this little store does not disappoint. It’s convenient and staffed with a friendly team. The only thing that would make it better is more outdoor sitting spaces.
A must have in Boston. What a classic! Yummy ice cream!
Great vegan flavors! We had the chunky peanut butter and chocolate. They're the perfect amount of thick and creamy. You wouldn't guess that they're vegan.
I got the peanut butter cup which was OK. Can't say the ice cream itself after shaving the additions is exceptional though.
Good ice cream! Fast friendly service.
