Absolutely 100% the best restaurant in Birmingham, Chinese or otherwise. The owner is so incredibly sweet, and she always remembers you when you return! She even knows my order (and my mom's order) by heart, and always remembers that my boyfriend orders coffee. Just that would be enough to recommend it, but the food is also amazing! They have a huge selection of vegan options, and every single one I've had is delicious. My favorite is the sweet and sour tofu, but the curry tofu, vegetable fried rice, vegetable dumplings, Mongolian chicken, and Mongolian beef are all incredible, as well. If you only ever eat at one restaurant in Birmingham, this needs to be it!!!
Great Service And Great Food. On October 14,2014 my family celebrated my youngest sister's birthday at New China on 20th street and 10th ave south on Southside. We had more than enough room for our large party. All the staff was very attentive to our needs and especially sweet to my elderly mother. Our beverages were brought in a very timely manner and refills were no problem. My hot tea came in a teapot. The food came out quickly with everything fresh and delicious. It was a great night all around and we all enjoyed ourselves. A good time was had by all.
This is the best Chinese food I have found in the Birmingham area! I have tried tons of their menu and everything has been good. It is a family friendly environment where my kids can be comfortable as well.
Great food!! I had the teriyaki chicken and it was great! Comes mixed with sautéed mixed vegetables. Not your typical Chinese restaurant. They don't serve off of a buffet at dinner so your food is cooked as you order. Highly recommend!!!

Hot and Sour, Quick and Tasty. Its not the cheesy, fast food Chinese of the mall nor the high dining places. Its New China. Its been there for a while, and it doesn't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon.
So, why go? Well, for one, a $5.50 lunch includes soup or eggroll, rice and entre'. I usually get two meals out of my to-go order (yes, convenient to my work).
The last time I went for a sit down was with the old college crew (use to be a regular spot for us). Out of the 14 of us, half of us ordered a vegetarian option. Only one of us is vegetarian, though. We have really come to enjoy their tofu variations of classics. Sure, you can tell, but they're tasty different! I really enjoy my tofu mushu!
But they also know their regulars. We get friendly service, even from new wait staff. They answer and they have my food ready in 10 minutes for lunch. Sure, we've hit snags (had to call back to get order through, mistakes on food, poor food) but these are the exceptions, not the rules and each time they've corrected it when we brought it up.
So, quick lunch or decent dinner, its a staple for southside. Now excuse me while I go finish my hot and sour soup.
Std Chinese Fare--a plus in SoSide. The south is full of Taiwanese cookie-cutter Chinese restaurants. New China is part of this enterprise--but they do a very dependable and reliable job in the heart of Southside. The portions are bigger at night, lunch time has somewhat smaller portions. The curries are very well prepared. Egg rolls are always freshly prepped. I love the hot and sour soup here. All of the fried rices are stuffed with meat. This is a great place for Southside. The parking is awful--but the restaurant is worth a block or two's walk. Service is very attentive. I tip well here--they are delightful. Sit near the window so you can see the Southside folk pass by. Enjoy!!
