A bunch of us decided to try out the Tip Top Grill today for lunch. I had heard for years how great this spot was. Believe me, this food and place is so worth standing in line!!
My hubby had the ER Burger, which were 2 huge hamburger patties with bacon and pimento cheese followed by jalapeno peppers, which was unbelievable fabulous!!! We split the cheese fries which were epic!! I had the chili slaw dog which was very tasty but the corn dogs were great!! They are flavored with a bit of honey and that made the difference in the corn dogs. Everything was so delicious and worth the wait. For desert, my hubby and I split the Heath Bar Cookies which were truly the best we have ever had!!!. In fact, I had to go back in and get some more for our trip home. Also eating outside this place provides the most beautiful view of Birmingham!! I can't wait to return and show this jewel off to our grands!!! They will flip for it!!!

What a great hidden gem.. Food is
quick and decent. People are friendly and the view is too die for.. Will definitely be back !
How have I missed this place?. I have driven by here many times in my 24 years in Birmingham. I have never stopped until last week. This is the coolest local burger and hot dog spot! I thought the fries were wonderful and the hot dogs were good too (Vienna Beef, hard to find). I was not a fan of the chili on the dogs. It has a smoky flavor that I found a bit strong. But the special dog is reminiscent of Pete's Famous Special Dog! Not exact but close! This is a great place to take out of towners for a quick bite. They serve breakfast but I have never had it.
Bluff Park HQ. Hot dogs, corn dogs, chili dogs .. you get the idea. The ruffled fries are good and the price is right. Grab a snack and enjoy the show. The view is spectacular, the locals nice and open hearted and you will most definitely feel the small town vibes going. Get a hair cut cross the street or snoop around the hardware store that still sells screws by the number or by the pound.
It's not the food it's the whole package.
Go for the stunning view of the valley during the peak of the fall season. Absolutely breathtaking. Hardly seems right to be eating greasy burgers and dogs with a view that spectacular.

Top of the Heap. My sister brought me to Tip Top Grill for the first time last year. I've been back, again and again, and I've brought friends. When people come from out of town, if the weather is nice, this is the place we bring them for lunch.
The food is inexpensive, but tastes great (not healthy, so if you're a vegan hippie type... this probably isn't for you). The view from Bluff Park is just amazing. It overlooks the Oxmoor Country Club golf course, and on a clear day you can see for miles. I even watched a hawk flying around, circling and diving, once for about twenty minutes. It's picturesque. There's also a neat little knick-knack and antique shop across the street, and next to the Tip Top Grill there's a little path that leads down to a "Lovers' Leap" spot (not fenced, steep drop-off, dangerous to small children; be careful, and don't take small children down there without a leash or something).
Tip Top Grill serves Coca-Cola products (a big plus for me). Also, use the Heinz ketchup packets on the counter, not the ketchup in the bottles on the table. There's nothing wrong with the ketchup bottles on the table, per se, but it just doesn't taste very good (maybe because it sits out in the sun all day?). One thing that Tip Top does especially well is corn dogs. Man, those corn dogs are awesome!
Tip Top Grill is a unique little restaurant in Bluff Park that's nearly always hopping with activity (especially around peak times). Get there early, get a corn dog or whatever you prefer, and find a shady seat if you can. It's definitely the kind of place you'll come back to again and again!
