My family and I absolutely love everything about Dewars. Since my parents were born in Bakersfield and we visit extended family, we always try and make a Dewars run and enjoy a Black & White choosing ice cream flavors they handmake at the store. Although there are a few locations in Bakersfield, we always find ourselves at the original one on Eye St. Old fashion ice cream at an old fashion ice cream parlor is the best way. They have a counter with the round swivel chairs plus some tables, lots of ambiance since it's pretty much original. The ice cream is scrumptious and hand made, the nuts (almonds, walnuts and peanuts) are crushed finely which is great when sprinkled on their handmade marshmallow topping. By the way, their marshmallow topping is truly a treat. It's my husbands favorite topping at DeWars, try over-the-top for him. He loves it so much we have even bought some and brought it back to Orange County where we live. I love how they give you water in the old fashion plastic cups while you decide on your ice cream choice. Some may think the prices are high, but let me say it is well worth it!! The area where the original store is can be sketchy looking, but we have never had an issue in all the times (which are many) we have visited. The place holds a fond place in my heart as my mom told me her story going to Bakersfield High School with the Dewar sisters (I don't think she knew them well) but since my mom passed away young her story Is very special to me as is Dewars. The homemade taffy is equally as wonderful especially the peanut butter. Really all flavors are worth their weight in gold. So if you are going to Bakersfield or driving through on your way to somewhere else, stop because you will be so happy you did. Nice thing is Eye St. is right off California Ave which is an exit off the 99 fwy and not to far from the freeway.
You can't go to Bakersfield without a stop at Dewars! The ice cream is fantastic! Always get the black and white (vanilla ice cream with hot fudge topped with chocolate ice cream with marshmallow cream!) Their shakes are great and so are their chews! If you've never been make it a point to stop by...you won't be disappointed!

One of the best old fashion Ice Cream eateries that dates back to 1909.
It's part of Bakersfield history, with the current Eye St location opening in 1928.
Get a cone, bowl, shake, float or ice cream sundae.
What can you say about a little iconic experience at this classic ice cream parlor. Everything was wonderful. Great ambiance and we completely enjoyed our visit here.
I never knew of this place. I'm so glad a friend showed me this place. It's a lovely and cozy little shop. It has a beautiful old-fashioned look 😍. I didn't get to try the ice cream because I ended up wanting a slushy instead. However, I can tell by how the slushy tasted and the few candies I sampled everything there has to be delicious. I definitely recommend this place. Whether it's a quick treat or a family outing. You won't be disappointed!!
Whats not to love about this place? I've been coming here since I was a kid and I love that they have let the deer and ram stay. Its still has that 50s vibe going on. Got a Black N White and a box of chews.
This is always a fun little stop if you can deal with a crowd. I've never been here when there wasn't a line waiting to get a barstool at the counter for ice cream. The sundaes are incredible. My husband never leaves without purchasing a pound of sugar free candy. They're the only place that carries what he likes.
Can you find anyplace better than one of the oldest ice cream parlors in town. Possibly, but consistency, quality and friendly service along with atmosphere are always top notch. IMHO, hands down the best place to go for a cold treat on a hot day!
Amazing ice cream, huge portions prefect for sharing. I like the black and white with cookies and cream instead of vanilla. The ice cream quality is so good and the way they sundaes are made makes it even more delicious!
