The best Indian Buffet in Austin. Hands down. Also there has never a wait, at least when I've been there. Walk in, sit down, go to the buffet.
I've been to other Indian food places around town, mostly hit or miss, I've seen them come and go, but Star of India has been consistently excellent every time I've eaten there. The samosas are enormous and well seasoned, the buffet is kept fresh, and the mango pudding is to die for. I can't claim they're the best, or even the most authentic, but I can say that they've never, ever let me down, and it's a wonderful place for a date.
I tried the lunch buffet and it was delicious. Great variety, tasty dishes, and very fresh. The service was also excellent and free refills on the iced tea without even asking. Will definitely go back.
I love this restaurant. I've been coming here for at least 15 years. The restaurant is both menu and buffet. I almost exclusively do the buffet. In a word, "amazing!" The food is extremely fresh and well prepared. More importantly they keep a careful eye on the buffet so they can keep it refreshed. If Indian food is off-putting to you, try this place, it could possibly change your mind.
Today, I'm doing a beef Jazeera with rice. The principle sides are saag paneer (spinach in a yogurt sauce with cheese (paneer)) and a deep fried spinach for some crunch. My selection today was extremely good.
Let me end by talking about the ice tea. By far the best ice tea I've ever had. I could drink it by the gallon.
I have been coming to this restaurant for I don’t know how long, I grew up right behind here. It’s not childhood bias though I have gone to other restaurants and this one’s my favorite Indian buffet in Austin that I have been to. When I was homeless a long time ago I came in and didn’t realize it was fancy in here so I tried to leave but they kept offering me the lunch Buffett and lowering the price they were so nice I have always come back.
I’m currently living in my van and having a really hard time, if you aren’t living in your van but are having a hard time then this should help cause it helps me and I’m living in my van
This place is delicious!! I’ve gone several times for their weekend buffet and during the weeks for their menu dinner. The food is delicious with a variety of dish options! Additionally, the restaurant is very clean and the customer service is excellent!
I've been dining here for 30 years. It's always been great. I've tried Indian food in quite a few locations and states. None can match the Star! I especially Love the buffet. The soups could win awards! BTW, I'm vegetarian.
Loved the food and service. The host was very attentive and even made us laugh when he mixed me up with my brother (we look alike.) We had a great time and recommend Star of India.
I've been coming to this establishment for over 2 decades now and as of yet I have no complaints or disappointing moments in here. Food, staff, ambiance, service, value for the money and location are great. Efrain is the best host one can ask for. Fresh dishes keep filling up the warmers, as well as the chutneys, and desserts. Can't wait for my next meal!
Found this Indian restaurant that offers weekend lunch and dinner buffet, thought we'd give it a try on a Sunday. The place is super busy at 1pm, luckily didn't have to wait for a table.
Really enjoyed all the dishes, the soups were delicious, I love the tomato one in particular and the curry madr with green peas and cheese. I will definitely come back sooner than I expected.
We love this place. We loved it when they had lunch and dinner buffet. But our recent visit was bit disappointing because they don’t do dinner buffet on weekdays any more, or may have changed to particular days. Anywho, we still love the food here, no doubt. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the own/general manager/the guy was not inviting. He always seemed mad, frustrated or not happy…. I mean, you are in customer service industry, please be friendly… unless he just not happy towards us? P.S. Chicken Tika Masala is great, Lamb Korma is great, but the Beef curry is so so. I still recommend this place, despite the guy always has a straight face.
My friends and I wanted to try some Indian cuisine and this place was great! The buffet they offered was perfect when you want to try different plates. The staff was great and refilled our drinks when needed. We went on a Saturday around 1pm and it was not too busy. Everything was fresh and well kept! Thank you for a good experience Star of India!
