The name says it all. The Southern Gentleman was a great experience. From small plates to a full dinner menu. The extensive libations goes without saying. Thus spot is a must visit.
Limited lunch menu, however each dish is done with care. Celebrating a friends birthday we were pleased with all dishes. Very fair lunch prices considering the generous portions. We all discussed that we will return.
I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews on here but I had a great experience. The food has great, I had the pork. The person I was with thought their good was great as well, although I can't remember what he had.
Drinks were done well. I kept it simple with an Old Fashion.
Will most defiantly be back.
The duck confit was by far some of the best I've ever had-the skin was nice and crispy and the confit was tender and simply mouthwatering. The duck fat dumplings had just the right amount of dough to where it was airy and had a slight chew to it, without being too doughy or unpleasant. The addition of the root vegetables added some earthiness to the dish and the gravy was so good, I couldn't stop dipping my dumplings in them!
This place has been on my list for a while, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it in the Atlanta Dining Out Passbook. I made same day reservations on OpenTable for 6:30pm. Parking in this area is valet, once we arrived we were seated right away. The ambiance and music was very nice. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered the charcuterie board and fried green tomatoes, followed by shrimp and grits, short rib, and fried chicken. The food was hot, well seasoned and very flavorful. Everyone is our group thoroughly enjoyed their food. My drink that was suggested by our server was also delicious, can’t recall the name. When the server says the drink is sweet, believe it. My friend ordered the strawberry drink and had a hard time finishing it due to the sweetness. Overall, great experience…we’ll be back!
So, dinner here got off to a very rocky start...
We had a reservation and arrived early, yet they wanted to sit us on high seats/table, which we did not want, then they wanted to sit us outside, but it was too noisy and rowdy, we declined.
Eventually the manager took charge and found us a nice table after about 10-15mins, grateful to him.
The rest of the evening went uphill from here, our server was nice and courteous, bless her. Our food was very nice and tasty and arrived on time, just as we were finishing our starters.
The menu was limited though, I expected more choices, E.g no salmon on the menu.
Asides that and the first 10minutes, it was a lovely experience.
Great ambience, good lighting.
FYI - This restaurant is on the second floor, you have to take the stairs/elevator.
Parking is $20 valet.
Everything was perfect. The waitress, the chef, the food, atmosphere, staff, ambiance and service. Definitely will be back. We had our 11th Christmas celebration here and we have no regrets. Compliments to the chef!
I've come to this spot for a long time, always great food, great service, and great atmosphere. Great value for your $$. Had the peach cobbler french toast, shrimp n grits, and brazed short ribs. The mimosa flight is great. Deserts was great, peach cobbler and pound cake.
The host stand attendants are not the best reflection of the service at The Southern Gentleman; maybe we caught them at a bad time but they were unfriendly when we arrived and unhelpful when we tried to validate our parking. The rest of our service here was great.
The starters are where it's at! The fried green tomatoes have a tasty jam and the hush puppies are great too! When we got our mains, I had regrets about the squash I ordered (pictured) as it absolutely didn't live up to the apps or even the collard greens and cornbread my son got as his side with the fried chicken. The mac and cheese shareable side is the reason I'd consider returning, it's THAT good. I do NOT recommend the squash to someone who does eat meat but leans towards veg options... Get the meat here!!
The parking situation for someone coming from outside the perimeter (OTP) is kind of a nightmare. There's valet or a parking deck with a walk and they'll validate your ticket if you're not sticking around to shop. The restaurant is on the second floor, accessible by stairs or an elevator, but a little tricky to find if you're not at all familiar with the area.
Went here on a Saturday morning for a bday brunch party of 8. There was a reservation made, but they chose to sit us outside on the patio when it wasn't requested. We were told that there was only one table inside that would've been big enough to accommodate our party, but it was unavailable. The inside was nice though. The birthday girl was upset but we went with it. We were seated immediately although everyone hadn't arrived yet. The hostess was very nice and our waitress was too. I wish I had remembered her name, but I don't. Her service was excellent!! With a party of 8, we pretty much ordered almost everything on the menu. The brunch menu had about 10-15 items. I ordered the mimosa flight, deviled eggs, and the croissant, but I tasted the hushpuppies, fried chicken skillet cake, and pimento cheese, and it was good. For me, the croissant was huge, but it had too much egg and not enough bacon. Came with only two strips, but I know they used 3 or 4 eggs to make it. The eggs weren't seasoned, nor was the spinach that was on it. And the croissant itself was dry. They should offer some sort of jelly. The small potatoes that came with it needed more seasoning. For the money, the mimosa flight wasn't ideal for me. I would've been better getting a carafe price wise. Everything else I tasted was good. Overall, I would go back but not for the brunch menu. The only things that stood out were the chicken, hush puppies, and pimento cheese.
Before you leave Atlanta, you must stop by The Southern Gentleman for some southern hospitality and delicious soul food!
Parking is convenient: There is a parking structure nearby but I decided to park in the lot adjacent to the St. Regis nearby since that was my next destination. Buckhead is an upscale trendy neighborhood and it feels very safe walking around even late at night.
Food was delicious: I savored every bite of my fried chicken which was topped with pickles and accompanied by a side a greens and cornbread. I left feeling full but not heavy.
Ambiance was energetic: people were engaged with their respective parties. One suggestion: I did not appreciate the evening news which was on the TVs behind the bar. While I like to be informed, I didn't enjoy glancing up at the TV occasionally and seeing bad news.
Service: Sterling was warm, hospitable and recommended the perfect dish after I told him I needed to have soul food before leaving Atlanta.
I highly recommend this restaurant for an elevated experience!
What a most incredible dining experience! @chefbankswhite and the team @thesoutherngentlemanatl have truly outdone themselves. The experience starts from the moment you enter the establishment until the moment you depart.
Upon arrival, I was greeted ever so warmly by a most gracious host, who promptly checked me, alerted me that one of my guests was at the bar, and shared I would be seated as soon as the other members of my party arrived.
At the bar, I engaged in friendly banter with the bartender about making the best drinks ever and I had an Old Fashioned earlier. He offered to make one and promised it would be amazing and he did not disappoint! While waiting, Chef comes over to welcome us to the establishment, as he and I had worked together, previously.
We then got seated and the tastings/culinary delight began. @chefbankswhite and team took us on a journey of infused and combined flavors that forced you to stop and savor each bite. It seemed that with each serving the food simply got better. Every dish was full of flavor and personality. Every dish was so exquisitely delicious, I must list them out…#whitecheddarhushpuppies with #goatcheesecrema, #friedgreentomatoes #smokedlardons #whippedpimentocheese, #deviledeggs, #smokedgoudamacncheese, #gulfshrimpngrits, #berkshireporkchop #honeyglaze #smokedbaconnyellowcornsuccotash, #sweetpotatocornbread, #braisedshortribpotroast #smokedgoudapotatopuree, #castironpeachcobbler
I must mention we had the most incredible server ever - Michael. His attention to detail, his level of customer e garment, his positive, energetic spirit made the experience even that much more enjoyable. He was truly vested in making the experience top notch.
Kudos to Executive Chef @chefbankswhite , Sous Chef DJ, our server Michael and the entire team @thesoutherngentlemanatl for one of the best culinary dining experiences ever. You get the first ever @DiningwithVo restaurant ratings -

Don’t walk, run to Southern Gentleman in #Buckhead, #Atlanta. Highly recommended…I’ll definitely be back.
My partner and I visited here to celebrate his 40th birthday and it was an amazing experience! We had to make reservations to ensure great seating (we love a booth 👍🏼) and our server, Michael, was super nice and accommodating, despite it being a busy night. Our food and drinks were made to order and, and nothing disappointed us. I hope to return again soon!
Nothing to complain about here! We had a date here and tried the buttermilk fried chicken and my goodness was it yummy! Sweet potato cornbread? Yes please. Service was quick, and attentive and the atmosphere was very relaxed, with dim lighting. We will be back to try other items on the menu.
