I couldn't help but notice a huddle of people crowded around the window this past Saturday, eagerly peering inside the newly renovated space. When one door closes, another opens--this time, to make way for what has the potential to become a popular bakery not only in Astoria, but perhaps several other locations around the city. MALTA It is difficult to locate cuisines that do not exist in any form in and around New York City. Sometimes it is the cuisine of a similar neighbor (many West African countries come to mind), or sometimes a popular dish of one country can be found in the restaurant of another (Jordanian mansaf in a Lebanese place, for example). You would think that of all possibilities, the tiny island nation of Malta, which occupies a space of the Mediterranean Sea close to Sicily, Tunisia, and Libya, might be one that proves impossible. You would, however, be wrong. Leli's in Astoria might appear like any other European bakery in the city, but the small chalkboard above the refrigerator reveals the specialties that are unique to Malta, and thus the special reason for coming here to eat. This place was amazing. The royal chocolate cake slice had layers of different textures and was superb. Kareem's personality made our night. We walked out with a smile and feeling loved. "He just wants to feed you good things" vibe is what I got.
I stopped going to this bakery after the previous owner served me bad milk. No biggie it happens.I informed him the milk is bad so he threw a tantrum and served me that same milk from that same carton just steamed.
Never went back.
Glad to see someone new took over and so far so good so please keep up the good work.

I got cannolis, pistachio biscotti and red velvet cookies. All delicious but we had me weak in the knees was a sample of his baklava!! So I’ve never really been a fan of baklava because it’s always usually to sweet. You can only eat a bite at a time. But this man’s baklava was so balanced I can’t explain it. It was more flavor than sweet. You got a hint a sweet in the beginning, then you got the pistachio and flaky pastry, at the end it was sweet again! So balanced so delicious. Best Baklava in the city on my momma! Fight me. 👊🏾
Popped in for a quick bite...great spread and some very tasty pastries! Spanakopita and a meat/pea pastry were so good! Very nice people too, 10/10 would recommend.

Simply the best. The owner is a great guy. The cinnamon rolls are ridiculously awesome. Breads, cakes, cookies, savory pastries, sandwiches and more are all fantastic. They have a few tables so you can sit and eat and relax. The place is perfect!
Amazing bakery store! Everything is made in the store from scratch. I loved the pastizzi with ricotta filling so friable and tasty. The store is cozy and the staff is super nice! Highly recommended.
The only bakery in Astoria that is truly good!!! What a gem of a place!! Their stuff is just perfect! Not too sweet, what I highly appreciate! Love it!! So yummy 😋!
