I ordered a jumbo burger and small fries. That was one of the best burgers I've had in awhile! The fries were real potatoes and cut thick...soo good! My coworkers had burgers, tamales, and the stuffed sopapilla. That was one of the biggest tamales I've seen! Everyone thouroughly enjoyed their food! I will definitely eat here again!
Kathy’s is amazing! They’re open late which is awesome, and their salsa is delicious. Their taco plate is so dang tasty and the tacos have a really nice crunch to them. I also like their rellenos and burgers.
I keep reading about the bad service. Its just that the people there are real. They haven't been trained to "yes ma'am, no ma'am", which for the most part is super fake anyway. I have always received genuine food, genuine service and yes, the food is a bit greasy, but its not overly processed, plastic food. All the ingredients are cooked there right on site! I love Kathy's. But, if you want "smiling" faces all the time, maybe you should to to IHOP or some other corporate chain, where your beans come from a can and your pre-shredded lettuce from a plastic bag.
Surely the Alibi staff’s 2001 pick of Kathy’s Carryout serving the “best hamburger in the Duke City” had to be a mistake. How, after all, could a ramshackle garage sized building with a kitschy purple facade and equally garish orange trim possibly compete with the flamboyant chains and their glitz and glamor or even with the local purveyors in the more well-traveled paths throughout the city?
Great tacos. Great sopapillas. Great everything. Has the drink machine with every possible drink combo. Fresh authentic mexican food. Its one of abqs hidden treasures
Delicious (Not a Low Calorie Food).
I've been eating here for years and it's very good. The food is far from healthy but is always tasty. I always get the #2 burrito (bean & beef) and the #8 (bacon, bean, & egg). Service is good and quick.
Wait, What?. Okay here is the deal with Kathys CARRY-OUT folks. No one should eat at a carry-out. one comment mentions the interior of the C-A-R-R-Y-out. Call your order in, drive to Kathys, ring the door bell at the carry-out window, pay for your food, and drive away. When you order Kathys food make sure you are ordering it with red chile on it or you are missing out. This place is a gem as long as you have red chile on your food. The chile rellenos smothered in red with a side of red, oh boy this is heaven. I am not sure what they put in the red chile but it has got to be one of the best in town. almost for got if you dont like rellenos go for a stuffed sopapilla but make sure you asked for it smothered in red chile... did I mention the red chile?
So, so greasy. You'll hate yourself and the world after eating here, but you'll be fine after a long nap. Do not operate heavy machinery after eating here. The burgers are very reasonably priced and will fill you up and be delicious to boot.
Eating here about 8 years.... It was good... Now very slow service and so much salt!!!! What happened?

Odd interior - good food. The building looks fairly new. But the way it's set up on the inside is rather odd. It has a small window where you walk up to place your order to somebody behind the counter. The room behind the counter and in between us and the kitchen is very spacious. The ceiling goes up two floors for some reason. A cheap sign containing the menu is bolted to the wall...way up high. The tiled floor has a drain in the middle. I guess so they can hose the place down at night and it will all drain out.
It's just a little odd to me that's all. It looks like it was built for something else and at the last minute this owner scooped it up and made it into Kathy's Carry-Out. It's not bad...just odd.
I've eaten here twice and the service...pretty straight forward. No friendly chit chat at all.
The food is okay. My wife LOVES the soft tacos. I ate the regular crunchy shell tacos both times. Not bad. But not really anything to write home about. Not spicy in any way...even with the provided Taco sauce poured all over them.
But I left filled. It's an odd place with decent food. But it seems to be almost a borderline institution for the area. So it might be worth checking out. But there are lots of other places around this one that look very interesting. I might have to check out the other places next time I'm in the area.
Update: On my last visit, I tried the "Jumbo Burger" with Green Chili and Cheese. It's was great!
My wife has been holding out on this place. Now that we're moving back to AZ she tells me about this smh🤦🏽♂️. This place is great the Kathy burger was awesome need to have this right before we leave. Good job guys keep up the good work.
Great service and very friendly and polite! I have been here twice, and I really enjoyed my dining experience each time. My tacos were very tasty the rice was just a bit on the dry side but overall a great meal.

The Chile was fantastic! Red was amazing and green was great but I prefer red. I had a burger but it was pretty disappointing. Dry and not enough Chile on it. Fries were fresh and tasty. My husband got the carne adobada stuffed sopapilla and it was out of this world good! I usually get that at all New Mexican places on the first try but I felt like getting out of my comfort zone this time and I really regretted it! I will definitely go again but next time I’m not messing around with burgers.

I have been coming here since I was kid with parent's. Food is still good. Bathrooms are clean, large roomy dining area. Nostalgic to see to the old building, next to the recent location. Reminds me of watching our food getting freshly made in front of us. Especially, the fresh hand-made papas fritas. I still love the taquitos. The daily specials to the menu is an awesome add-on. Kathy’s is a classic good food place, been around for many years. We had the Chile cheese fries, chicharron burrito, and rolled tacos. Very tasty food, low prices, with an old school feel. The only reason I went 4 star is because these place used to have hot Chile sauce and now it’s more flavor-we want the heat, meh, not gonna lie we will be back tho.
The food is amazing and the prices are great! Support your local business. Ditch the big corporate chains and get superior food prices and service! Kathy's is hands down one of the best restaurants!
Love this place , try n make it a tradition once a month . Would come more often but like on the way other side of town. Usually come on a Wednesday so.we get the taco special . Three tacos per person which is plenty!!! Yummmm . There other food like there burritos, ECT are also amazing. Trust when I say u will be dreaming about the food!!! Must have for sure!
Call ahead to order. Everything is fresh so it takes some time, and calling ahead reduces wait time for you and everyone else in the drive through, though there is a dining area with a fast food atmosphere. The best items to order were not on Google's list: carne adovada and egg breakfast burrito #7, and the Kathy Burger, double burger with green chile and cheese for the ambitious who want delicious!
