Best sandwiches in DC. It’s a local staple only open for weekday lunches. The G-Man on hard bread, meatball sub, and turkey and cheese are so good. Definitely recommend calling ahead or making an order online so you don’t have to wait for your sandwich. Take out only.
Update 11/29 :
Got the notorious Big G (on soft roll), it’s huge and SUPER delicious. —
Mangialardo's is my go to sandwich place. Open since 1953, yesss….69 years and still delicious. An old school Italian Shop is truly a hidden gem. I love their roast beef & Cheese sandwich on soft roll bread. Kiss, Olan
LEGIT Italian Deli. Super kind people. A bit pricey but their reputation precedes them, so I don’t mind paying a few more bucks for a great sandwich. PRO TIP: If you like a lot of extra dressing like mustard and mayo, go with the soft roll. With the hard roll, this G Man kept slip slipping away but it tasted so good I had to chase it down!
A hole in the ground but one of the best Italian deli’s in DC. They’ve been here a long time and the sandwiches are phenomenal! I always get the Italian cold cut on a soft roll. The soft roll keeps all that delicious Italian meat in tact better than the hard roll does. I also enjoy the tasty potato salad. A little pricey but it’s legit. Mama mia!!
Small Italian Deli near capitol hill. It looks like a simple sub but the taste is way above that.
Offers take out and you can call ahead and order.
I ordered the Big G (recommended) and couldn’t resist not taking a bite in my car.
My neighbor kept this gem to himself for years and had been coming here since the mother and father were operating the deli.
The deli has been here over 65 years on Pennsylvania Ave SE and loved by all. You can tell the popularity by all the cars parked or double parked by law enforcement, fire department workers, businessmen and women, commercial personel, neighbors, people getting off buses, getting out of cabs and those walking in from nearby.
Once you enter the deli it is clean, homey, inviting, the staff are smiling and eager to take your order. Pictures of their mother and father welcome you, other mementos and a large framed display on the wall of badges from loyal customers dating back years.
The menu consists of their specialty sandwiches which are very reasonably priced. I was in and out in 10 minutes. Condiments are displayed on the selves which remind you of an old world Italian deli.
Get there early because when they sell out that's it. My sandwich was made fresh with great quality ingredients, generously proportioned, and with great flavors meshed together. The oregano gave it an extra pop.
I will be back and I will consider placing an order before a road trip.
Was recommended by a friend and did not disappoint.
The best was the hot sandwich. Also tried the cold cut with everything in it.
Customer service was very good and attentive.
Try the brownies! Nice little surprise 👌🏻
I came here for the first time last week with my partner and we were blown away on how good our sandwiches were. Please get the G man all the way. It is probably hands down the best sandwich in DC!
Grew up in Philly and lived here since 1990. Mangialardo's makes the best damn Italian hogie outside of Philly I have ever had. No joke, do yourself a favor and go to Mangialardo's next time you need a hogie!
THE BEST cold cut subs I have ever had!!! The best in the DC to me!! I always get the Big 'G', it's the G-Man with extra meat and cheese. Don't know of another sub shop that automatically puts provolone AND fontina cheese on their cold cuts.....that's good stuff!! This sub makes me happy! 😊
