What a great accidental find, since we didn't want to wait 45 minutes to an hour to eat at crowded Mi tierra's or Margaritaville. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the waite staff was very friendly. Very reasonably priced and the food tasted fresh and full of flavor. I recommend losing the uniformed security guard standing in front of the entrance. Just my opinion. Great place. I'd definitely eat there again.
The shortest wait on a busy Sunday lunch so far (believe me, 45 minutes is much better than an hour or an hour in a half on 98 degrees San Antonio heat) their price is reasonable, i recommend their nachos caseros, the food is way better than the mexican food we had at Riverwalk; so good that my son wanted me to give them a 5-star rating and to write a review � thank you for a good experience Viva Villa!
This little spot in market square is a must dine! Dont expect big, commercial plates of Mexican food. This is big flavor, upscale plating at reasonable prices. Ordered al pastor mini tacos, corn truffle quesadilla and sopas. Everything was absolutely delicious. Cute place, friendly staff. Will be on our revisit list!
What can I say other than we love this place!!!!! The fresh homemade salsa is to die for, the tacos are amazing and the atmosphere is fantastic! Every time we come to San Antonio we have to stop and eat here!
I was thoroughly impressed on my visit here. We ordered a Baja fish taco, carnitas taco, and pancho taco. The pancho was the best, but all were good. The carnitas are not shredded and the pickled onion and carrot slices were different but the flavor as a whole worked.
For sides, we had calabacita and corn and charro beans. These were also done well but not amazing. Dessert was the big red and Mexican vanilla soft serve. The Big red flavor comes through but the vanilla is really special. We also tried the chips and queso which were good but the bowl of queso is so small.
They have a really good beer selection, wine on tap, and good desserts. Many people came in just for flan. Next time I'll try a drink from the bar and the carne guisada.
As a long time San Antoninan, we needed a unique and fresh Mexican place like this.

Situated in the historic Market Square area of downtown, Viva Villa is the fourth restaurant owned by the Cortez Family (they also own Mi Tierra Cafe & Bakery, Pico de Gallo and La Margarita). The rustic decor of the restaurant/bar accentuates the casual/laid-back atmosphere of this taquería. You order 'cafeteria' style and choose from three main categories - cazuelas served in small cast-iron dishes with tortillas on the side, mercado tacos or mini-street tacos. The meat choices are plentiful and plenty good. Some examples of the meat choices are Mercado Guisada, Puerco en Salsa Verde and Pollo Rostizado. And don't forget the sides. I really enjoyed the Esquites which is a Mexican style street corn. The prices may seem a little on the expensive side compared to some of the taquerias here in San Antonio but the quality and quantity of the food makes up for the difference in price. This is also the only restaurant I've been to that has given me a refill on aguas frescas. The writing on the wall proclaims 'Revolutionary Tacos' and those seeking a good casual meal won't be disappointed.

It would be nice to see a couple more hearty options on the menu. But, this place serves it's purpose well. It's essentially a faster food option for tourist traffic not looking for a full sit down experience, and to catch folks who give up on the Mi Tierra wait.
Great alternative to the larger, louder, wall-to-wall packed Mi Tierra. Same food, same owners. Kids quesadilla plate was a hit, Enchilada Trio was delicious and enough to share after chips & salsa and queso. Quick, friendly service, margaritas were huge and tasty.
The atmosphere was AMAZING and the service was OUTSTANDING! The Mango-Chamoy Margarita rimmed with chile was delicious! I highly recommend it. My son and I had the Michoacan dinner and my husband had the Tacos del Mercado. My husband and son didn't know that real Pico de Gallo was made with fresh jalapenos. I laughed when they freaked out. The food was scrumptious! We will definitely be going back soon. When you do go there, ask for Pablo Acosta from Riverdale, CA. Outstanding server!!
I don't give 6 stars because that is not an option... the best tacos I have ever had, excellent and fast service, and great price!

We stopped here after a long day at 6 flags. It was close to our hotel. We almost didn't because it was dead compared to the other places near the market. I am glad we did. The person who seated us was really nice and our waiter was exceptional. We will be back next time we're in San Antonio. This is great food and great service.

Very good tacos, we were not exactly coming to eat here but I decided to give this place a chance and I'm glad. We received good customer service and our waitress was patient and understanding. She ensured we left happy. Would come here again.
Great food, and the weekend i was there, there was great live music playing across the patio very lively and fun.
