I wondered why we liked this place.
It's owned by the same people that own Family Restaurant in Davenport.
They have consistently good food and they ship desserts in from Chicago instead of setting for frozen. That's rare these days. Most restaurants have done away with dessert or pastry chefs and buy their desserts from their food distributor. Those are the perfect looking desserts that you see in most mid-level establishments. They have been in business for a long time and are wonderful people. Many of the staff have been there for years.
If you are expecting ambience or modern interiors, you won't find that here. The environment is COVID safe. But, it's classic. The food is what your mother or grandmother tried to make but couldn't perfect. They've had it right for a long time.
We have both this and Family Restaurant on our "go-to" rotation.
It doesn't look like much from the outside. But, it was one of the best meals that I've had in the area.
We did their liver and onions. So few people have it on a menu anymore. It's the best that I've had in years.
We didn't have dessert. But, the owner has them made in Chicago and they look amazing!
We stopped at Welcome Inn for breakfast. They have a very good breakfast menu. The service was excellent and the food was very good. It was fresh, hot, and prepared properly. The prices are what you would expect. We'll be going back.
